Script to add 2014 Irish holidays to Lync Server 2010 or 2013

y0av. With a zero.

Had a couple of requests this past week to set holidays for Response Groups.
I used Jamie Schwinn‘s great Lync RGS Holiday Set Editor for the first and second customer, but it started getting a little frustrating when I thought I’m going to have to do this for more customers as time goes by.

So for all of you Irish lads using Lync, here’s a script to add all the 2014 Irish holidays to Lync, with a single click.

Import this tool to your Lync server and run it using Lync management shell:

Lync Holidays Script 1

The script will ask you for your RGS’ DB server’s FQDN. Enter the name and hit Enter.

The script will complete in a second, creating all holidays for the year 2014:

Lync Holidays Script 2

You can run Get-CsRgsHolidaySet to verify the settings or use Jamie’s tool to have a better look at it:

Holidays confirmed

That’s it, you even have 2015…

Quick look at Windows 8

The long anticipated release of Windows 8 happened, and the launch was done in true Microsoft style on 26th October in New York City, and is quoted by Mr. Ballmer as being “the best Windows release ever”.  It takes Windows to the next level in regards to user experiences as it is a brand new interface to the Windows platform.  For Windows Phone users, the ’tiles’ are now extended to the Windows OS, and have received a colour palette uplift – the earlier versions of the Windows Mobile OS was primarily blue.

Users who prefer to go back to the classic Windows OS mode can certainly chose to do so.  Not too sure what classic Windows means; for me classic means Windows 3.1 or Windows 95 look ‘n ‘feel, but that would likely be considered ancient by most.

One of the key questions repeatedly asked is, what will Windows 8 offer organisations and what is the upgrade path?

Cloud Capital Forum

This year’s Cloud Capital Forum kicked off last Friday 23 November and took place at the Convention Centre, Dublin.  It was three hours spent with some of Ireland’s digital leaders on cloud computing, cover many aspects of cloud as well as big data and green IT.

Both business and political decision makers attended the event and a common view was that the cloud presents great opportunities for turning the Irish economy around.  In fact, many believe that Ireland has the opportunity to position itself as a cloud centre of excellence; a shining light for Europe and key link to the US and China.

The keynote speakers covered many views and possibilities of the Cloud evolution.  Although the cloud has been around for a number of years, in different shapes and with various names, this is still a new era and it’s not the usual companies that are leading the race.  The competition is fierce and one could compare this with war; new companies coming online, increased rates of efficiency and ability to service a global audience à improved growth circle.

HiberniaEvros has been setting the standard in IT support and services for over 20 years.  Other providers have traditionally offered a limited range of services based on what they can deliver easily.

LISTEN

  • The most important aspect is to listen to the customer.  Then we explore the possible pain points and see where we can bring value.

UNDERSTAND

  • Once we understand how you operate, end-user, management and customer needs, we develop a solution that fits.

DEVELOP

  • No two solutions are alike.  We tailor the service and build a solution that is seamless in its integration with existing operations and brings value to your business.

Europe’s largest tech conference – we were there!

Digital Planet is exhausted and emotional after the roller-coaster event that was the Dublin Web Summit.  Last year was impressive but this year’s event was just excellent.  We met great people and there was some amazing speakers with ground breaking ideas and insights into the connected world we live in today and a glance at around the corner. We will definitely be back next year.

A break from the norm

We decided to support the great efforts of the summit team and sponsor a stand this year. At some events you find that that you have to fish for people to hook and speak to but we were surprised and delighted with the eagerness that people had to come and learn about what we had to offer. The environment fostered a great sense of technical camaraderie with minimal need for ‘hard pitching’ or selling. Delegates had serious intent weather that intend was educational, exploratory, or more advanced and everyone enjoyed the experience and came away better off.

Shop online with us

Based on feedback from a lot of our clients, we have finally launched our online shop.  The aim is not to replace the already strong relationship you have with our account management team, but it enables you to purchase equipment ad-hoc and efficiently – items that are outside your normal purchase pattern.

There has been several use cases presented to our account management team, as to when you could use the online shop.

  • You want to provide your staff with the ability to purchase personal equipment online.  These purchases are no longer processed through your already busy IT team.
  • Projects that are managed by your organization might need to buy IT equipment and these should not be processed by the organization.
  • You are looking for a quick once off purchase for the organization and don’t have time to contact your account manager
  • You want to browse what equipment might be available and at what cost, to prepare project or IT budget planning

If there’s equipment that you are looking for, but can’t find it on the online shop, then please contact us immediately so we can provide you with the pricing and/or add it to our online catalogue.

Please logon to our shop to see what we.  You can set-up an account easily and start shopping today: HiberniaEvros Online Catalogue
